Here are a few questions that we may explore during our conversation together. These are just for your reference in case you want to think about them some before your session; however, you are not expected to! We will let the conversation flow as it will and I will use these questions as a guideline to keep us within a loose structure in order to get through as much as possible in approximately 20 minutes.

  1. In an elevator speech, who are you right now? (The external things that define you - including pronouns, age, orientation if you want to share, family, job/career/work in the world, etc)

  2. Tell me a bit about your youth. Where did you grow up and what lessons do you remember being taught that influenced your life growing up?

  3. What societal and/or culture expectations do you feel challenged by in your current life?

  4. In acknowledging where we struggle, I feel its important to acknowledge what we have - ‘gifted’ or ‘earned’. What privileges do you have that allow you to live within societal / cultural expectations?

  5. In a quick whatever-comes-to-mind, list the “shoulds” that you deal with on a daily basis.

  6. If you could immediately release yourself from three “shoulds” in your life without any negative consequences, what would those be?

  7. What practices have you done in your past that have helped you become more aware of the expectations and shoulds that exist for you?

  8. What practices are you currently doing that help you become more aware of the expectations and shoulds in your daily life?

  9. What practices are you doing that help you to exist in a way that feels aligned with how you want to be living…but is in conflict to those societal/cultural/familial/in your own mind expectations and shoulds?

  10. If you imagine a life where you were living with complete support not just for who you are, but for the exploration of who you are and who you might become, what does that life look like? What does it feel like?

  11. Anything else you want to impart from your life wisdom to those struggling with the weight of shoulds and attempts to be freely, authentically themselves?
